The amount of energy that can be harnessed from sunlight in just one hour far exceeds what humans would need for an entire year. China dominates the global production of solar panels, accounting for around 80% of the world's total output. This has led to concerns among other nations about the lack of diversification in the industry and potential losses of jobs and economic opportunities.

One of the key benefits of solar power is that it generates electricity from a free source - sunlight. In contrast, thermal generating stations require fuel to operate, which must be sourced from elsewhere and transported to where it is needed. The companies that supply these fuels have a vested interest in maintaining their revenue streams, which can lead them to resist changes in the energy market. As a result, they may fight hard to keep their profits intact, even if it means delaying the transition to renewable energy sources.

According to Deutsche Welle, solar power is growing exponentially around the world and could reach 9,000 GW of capacity by 2030. This would represent more than 20% of the world's total energy demand.

While some countries, such as California and Europe, have made significant progress in powering their utility grids with renewable energy sources, this is not representative of the global situation. The transition to solar power will likely take time, just like the adoption of electric vehicles, which are still a relatively new technology.

In China, the installation of 315 GW of solar panels in 2025 brought the total capacity to around 1,300 GW. This represents a significant increase in the country's renewable energy output and highlights its growing importance as a global leader in this field.

As the world continues to look for ways to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate climate change, solar power is likely to play an increasingly important role. By reducing our dependence on thermal generation and increasing the use of renewable energy sources like solar power, we can create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
