United Airlines is set to launch its new longest Boeing 737 MAX route from Newark Liberty International Airport to Rosalía de Castro Airport in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The service will operate on a seasonal basis and will be the first direct aerial link between the US and Santiago de Compostela.
The route will feature the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which is capable of carrying 166 passengers, including 16 business-class seats and 150 economy-class seats. With maximum westbound block times of around eight hours, these services are also notable as United's longest flights on the 737 MAX 8.
United Airlines first announced its plans to serve Santiago de Compostela from Newark last October, when the route was revealed alongside three other new additions for the summer of 2026. The airline expects its passengers to find a lot to love about Santiago de Compostela and the surrounding area in northwestern Spain.

The city is known for its rich history, stunning cathedrals, Medieval architecture, and is the endpoint of the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. With this new route, United Airlines aims to connect its customers to unique destinations no other US airline serves.
However, as with most new long-haul routes, it is essential for any airline to not run before it can walk. United has launched the Newark-to-Santiago de Compostela route as a summer seasonal service, with a total of 51 departures from Newark this year.
The carrier has selected a thrice-weekly schedule for this new transatlantic route, with eastbound flights from Newark to Santiago departing on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The return legs will thus operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Per aeroLOPA, United's 737 MAX 8s have 16 business-class seats and 150 economy-class seats. This means that passengers can enjoy a comfortable and spacious cabin experience while traveling across the Atlantic.
The launch of this new route is significant as it marks the first time Santiago de Compostela has had a direct aerial link with the US. The airline's commitment to connecting its customers to unique destinations is evident in its decision to operate this seasonal service.
With the longest flight duration of around eight hours, passengers can enjoy a relaxing and scenic journey across the Atlantic while exploring the rich history and culture of Santiago de Compostela.
