Lucid Motors' Winter Testing with Air Pure, Sapphire, and Gravity SUV

Feb 4, 20261 min readElectrek

In the frozen landscape of Northern Minnesota, Lucid Motors put its latest electric vehicles through a grueling winter testing regimen. The goal was to assess their performance in extreme cold weather conditions, specifically on icy surfaces.

I had the unique opportunity to join this test drive event at TRC Minnesota, located near Baudette and International Falls. The lineup included the tri-motor Air Sapphire, RWD Air Pure, and Gravity SUV, each designed to handle the harshest winter conditions.

With a focus on safety, comfort, and fun, Lucid engineers aimed to fine-tune their models for optimal performance in cold-weather environments. The testing took place across various terrain courses, including patches of pure ice, allowing me to compare the vehicles' responses when accelerating and braking on these surfaces.

While all three SUVs performed well, the Gravity stood out as a top contender in both regen-only mode and actual braking situations. However, even with its impressive control response, the vehicle still required caution when driving on icy roads.

The Air Pure and Sapphire, though reliable, struggled to match the Gravity's performance on these surfaces. Overall, this winter testing event provided valuable insights into Lucid Motors' latest electric vehicles and their capabilities in extreme cold weather conditions.

EazyInWay Expert Take

The results of this winter testing event demonstrate the importance of proper vehicle preparation for cold-weather driving. With the right tires and a well-tuned vehicle, even the most challenging winter conditions can be navigated safely and comfortably.
